Since taking office, affordability and protecting taxpayers have been among Brenda Pugh’s top priorities as a dedicated Northeastern Pennsylvania leader. She has actively supported efforts to eliminate real property taxes in Pennsylvania, including an amendment that aimed to constitutionally prohibit real property taxation statewide. As a State Representative candidate, she has also sponsored legislation to abolish Pennsylvania’s unfair MS4 'rain tax' and has worked to increase accountability and transparency regarding rising utility costs.
Brenda believes that families, seniors, and small businesses deserve to keep more of what they earn. When costs rise, both taxpayers and ratepayers deserve to understand how their money is being spent and who is responsible for those expenditures.
Public safety remains a key focus for Brenda. She has championed legislation to assist Pennsylvania’s fire departments in recruiting and retaining the volunteers they rely on. Further, she has sponsored measures to strengthen Pennsylvania’s commercial driver requirements, including implementing English-language proficiency standards to ensure CDL drivers can comprehend road signs and emergency communications effectively while operating large commercial vehicles on our highways.
Brenda is committed to equipping law enforcement with the necessary tools to combat crime without infringing upon the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens. Her initiatives include advancing legislation to establish statewide standards for automated license plate readers (ALPRs), ensuring Fourth Amendment protections while utilizing this important law-enforcement technology.
